@50t, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the Auto Document Feeder (ADF) on your HP ENVY Photo 7855 isn't working in scanning mode on Windows 10, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check ADF Settings in HP Smart or Scanning Software

Make sure the ADF is selected as the source when scanning:

  • Open HP Smart or your scanning software.
  • Choose Scan > Source > Select Document Feeder (not Flatbed).

Clean the ADF Rollers

Dust or debris can prevent the ADF from picking up paper:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the ADF cover.
  • Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to clean the rollers and separator pad.
  • Let it dry for 2 minutes before closing the cover and powering on.

Reset the Printer

A simple reset can sometimes fix feeder issues:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause hardware malfunctions:

Try Copying from the ADF

This helps determine if the issue is with scanning software or the hardware:

  • Place a document in the ADF.
  • Use the printer’s control panel to Copy.
  • If it copies successfully, the ADF hardware is likely fine.

Use HP Smart Instead of HP Scan and Capture

HP Scan and Capture has been retired. Use HP Smart from the Microsoft Store for better compatibility.

If none of these steps work, the ADF hardware might be faulty.
