When I copy a page -- either directly on the flatbed or through the document feeder -- there appears a thin "blank" vertifcal line down the center of the page.  Same thing appears on the computer screen image of a scanned document, again both from flatbed scanning and document feeder scanning.

I have carefully cleaned the glass as instructed.  I have also "reset" (unplugging, etc.) as instructed.

I'm so frustrated!  Is there anything else I can do.

by the way, this is probaby irrelevant, but I am low on colored ink (full on black ink).  But this problem occurs on black and white priting, so I think it's irrelevant.

Thanks your any help.  I don't want to have to buy yet again a new printer.

Open printer to access ink cartridges and examine in the middle of the printer where the vertical line appears above metal carriage rod there is calibration strip (a thin plastic strip that is used for positioning of carriage assembly) use some cloth damped with warm water ( don't use any cleaners) and clean that stip in the middle approximately where the blank gap appears.

I appreciate your taking the time to help me out.  I don't quite understand what you are referring to when you write, "in the middle of the printer where the vertical line appears above metal carriage rod there is calibration strip."  What specifically do you  mean by "above metal carriage rod?"  Can you by any chance take a photo and attach it?  If that is not possible here, could you email it to me directly at cichervin@yahoo.com?  Thanks again.

Open your printer like you want to replace cartridges. You will see inside printer going from left to right silver metal carriage rod, above that rod, there is a thin plastiv strip, clean that stip.

Thank you so much for heping me.  I am sorry to bother you again.  This is a photo of the inside of my printer.  I don't see the strip that you are talking about.  Maybe it is hidden under the black plastic that is right above the ink cartridges?  IMG_1292.jpg

Hello,

I'm sorry for the late response

If plain lines are showing up on your papers after a copy, fax or print then you should follow these steps... cleaning the glass,  jammed paper or metal strip that the cartridges run on  are not associated with white (blank) strips showing up on the paper your printing.

First: Turn on your printer, open the tray to access the printers cartridges, then disconnect the power plug from the printer.

Second: unplug your printer with the printer still on,  then push the power button for 3 to 5 seconds to discharge any built up static electricity left in your machine.

Third: Inkjet printing machines have 2 separate parts for consumers to access when it comes to printing, the cartridge and the housing the cartridges slides into, this cartridge housing will be where your main problem is, remove the cartridges then remove the housing for the cartridges, on the bottom of this housing there will be a strip in the center for your 4 colors of ink, on the outer portion of this strip will be a ribbon that will have black residue on it which may not be visible, be very careful not to touch the center portion with toilet paper or a paper towel, use a microfiber cloth that wont leave any particles on the film, once the black residue is removed, re-insert the housing, re-insert the cartridges and plug the printer back in

Press power, let it calibrate, and you should now have beautiful looking prints.

Note: Some printers have these ribbon strips located on the bottom of the cartridges themself.

Good luck and have a great day
