Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP

I bought my printer new a few weeks ago. I have set up scanning to my computer which works great except that I can only scan my placing each page face down on the glass. The top doc loader does not work even though when I place documents there it says 'Doc loaded'. When I press scan, a blank page will scan because it is taking whatever is placed or not placed on the top screen. This seems to be the only problem that I have scanning. The top doc feeder works fine if I want to copy. I am stumped. Any ideas?

In the software you are using on your computer you have selected to scan from document feeder? 

You need to check on your computer for an original source, default is scanner glass ( bottom) it's not changed automatically if you load original in top doc feeder.

Thank you! That indeed was the issue. I changed the settings to Feeder on the Scan/Fax program on my computer. It was the computer not the HP printer. 🙂
