HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Fax feature always worked before but today it doesn't connect.  Phone line has good dial tone.  I replaced the phone cable and even rebooted the printer twice. Still no luck.

@DonSperline, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I can imagine how frustrating it is when the fax suddenly stops cooperating, especially when it used to work just fine. You’ve already done a great job trying the basics — new cable, good dial tone, and a reboot.

Let’s try this:

Check Fax Settings – On the printer screen, go to Fax Setup > Preferences and make sure Dial Type is set correctly (Tone or Pulse based on your phone line).

Run Fax Test – From the same menu, run the Fax Test Report. It’ll tell us if the printer detects the line and can send/receive faxes.

Try a Manual Dial – Use the keypad to manually dial a fax number. Listen — if you hear dialing and the usual handshake sounds, we’re getting closer.

If the test fails but the line has a dial tone, your phone line provider might’ve updated settings that affect fax signals — especially if it’s a VoIP line.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
