I'''m dialling the Test Fax number HP provides.[edit] No answer, and it seems HP is not interested in making any effort whatsoever in helping me find a solution. Well, I have one. The HP 6968 is going back and they can keep it or sell it as a used item. My time is at least as valuable as theirs. I wont waste anotherentire day trying to make a piece of crap work.

HP's Fax number is not a standalone fax machine but an Automated Fax server.

NOTE: For testing purposes, you can send a fax to the HP Fax Test Service at 1-888-HPFaxme (1-888-473-2963). This free service sends a return fax within 5 to 7 minutes when the fax is working properly. Your fax number must match the number you entered in the fax header to receive the return fax.

 

Running a fax test on the printer may help resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:

 

Step 1: Run fax test

On the printer screen, Navigate to Fax menu > Fax tools > Run fax test

Check the fax report for results

 

Step 2: If all the tests passed, try to send a fax to any known fax number.

 

Step 3: If any of the tests failed, click here to perform troubleshooting on the same
