Hi @Honeybuns50,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To add a scan shortcut for your HP OfficeJet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer to your desktop or taskbar, follow these steps.
Using HP Scan Software
Install/Reinstall HP Scan Software:
- If you don't already have the HP Scan software, download and install it from the HP Support website.
- During installation, choose the option to install "Full Feature Software and Drivers."
Create a Desktop Shortcut:
- Open the Start Menu and search for HP Scan.
- Right-click on the HP Scan app from the search results.
- Select Open file location.
- In the file location window, right-click the HP Scan application icon and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).
Pin to Taskbar:
- If you'd like the shortcut on the taskbar, right-click the newly created desktop shortcut and choose Pin to taskbar.
Using Windows Built-in Scan App
If you prefer to use Windows' built-in scanning tool:
Search for Windows Scan App:
- Open the Microsoft Store and search for Windows Scan.
- Install the Windows Scan app if it’s not already installed.
Create a Shortcut:
- Once installed, find the Windows Scan app in the Start Menu.
- Right-click on the app and select Pin to taskbar or Pin to Start for quick access.
Manual Scan Shortcut Creation:
- Alternatively, you can search for "Scan" in the Start Menu, right-click the app, and choose Open file location.
- Right-click the icon in the file location window and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).
After following these steps, you should have a scan shortcut available on your desktop or taskbar for easy access.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
