Unable to Scan

Trying to scan old photos by laying on scanner screen.  Message "The document feeder was not able to pick up the original.  Load the original in the document feeder and try again."  Since it is an old photo, I don't want to load it in the feeder.  How do I fix this?

Hi,

Have you made sure the Scan Source is set to Flatbed Glass and not to Document Feeder in the scanning app?

That was what I wanted to do but I can't find it in the settings on the device.  How do I do that?

Please let me know what exact application are you scanning from.

Is it HP Scan? HP Smart? What exact steps are taken to scan?

It is HP ENVY 7640.

I put the photo on the screen face down in the proper corner.  Press Scan.  Scan to Computer,  I select my desktop.  I select scan shortcut save as JPEG.  I select start scan.  I hear the feeder make a noise and then it says "Reload Original.  The document feeder was not able to pick up the original.  Load the original in the document feeder and try again. "

Since these are old photos I want to scan, I don't want to try to put them through the feeder.  I tried to feed a sheet of paper through and get the same message.  The scan feature works when I scan to PDF.  But I want to be able to crop pictures, etc so that is not an option.

Thanks for the clear information @RAM112.

Please search for HP and open the HP Envy 7640 software.

Click on Scan a document or photo and select the Save as JPEG shortcut.

Right-click the shortcut name and select to Restore default settings option

Next, change the Source to Flatbed Glass and select the proper settings.

You may set the Type to Photo and the Scan Size to Auto Detect, then photos will be auto cropped.
