Previously, when I used the Scan feature on my HP Envy 4500 All-In-One printer, I would be prompted about whether I wanted to scan to a JPG or PDF. Now, it always scans to a JPG without giving me the option to scan to PDF.
I've installed several updates and notice that the menus are a little different now. For example, when I select Scan, I thought it used to detect my HP laptop, but now the only response to "Select Computer" is "Others." After that, I see a list like Scan to HP-Laptop, Scan for Print to HP Laptop, Scan for E-mail to HP Laptop, etc. None of those appear to scan to a PDF. Is there a problem with my computer's connection to my printer, or has the printer software changed in such a way that it no longer supports printing to PDF? I really found that valuable!

Scanning issues…
Please try this scan solution:
HP Scan Extended
For Windows: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
Make searchable PDFs scans with this free scanning software - https://www.naps2.com/
Let us know.

Thanks! Prior to seeing this reply, I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor, and that helped. For some reason the printer wasn't detecting my laptop, and now it does. I see it in the Select Computer list, and I am once again prompted to select a JPG or PDF. But thanks for responding to my post! It's good to know there are folks out there willing to help one another!

Many Thanks for this work around. It downloaded fast and installed EASY for an ole fella like me. Brings back my choices in the printer menu to scan as a PDF and once again recognises my Computer's name.
I'm glad I persisted as it's a great little printer, scanner etc and I didn't want to replace it with another brand. Well done HP support. Best regards.... Rod
