Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi:  Since a  couple of days ago whenever I scan directly from the printer's small screen the scanning is done to a bmp file and at the same time  Windows 10 Fax and Scan software opens. Furthermore the default destination folder has changed.

Ho do I set my default preferences as they were before ( PDF and a different destination folder) so I can scan without having to open the HP Scan software everytime I scan a new document?

Hi @Robirv75,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with scanning to PDF from your printer.

To understand the issue and help you, please share the details listed below:

- Exact model number/product number(SKU number) of your HP Product (Click here for information on how to find the model number/product number).

- Error messages or Blinking lights (if any) on the unit.

- May I know which application you are using to print or scan?

- When was the last time your printer was scanning to PDF without any issues?

- Were there any changes made to your printer recently?

- May I know which devices are you using to print eg: Windows PC, Mac, or Smartphone (Android or iPhone)?

Note: Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Hiya,

Thanks for your help assistance here.

printer is a Hp Envy 4524, serial no TH67C3K0N9

- there are no error messages or blinking lights

- I scan by touching the display and then press scan, then scan to desktop-C3VPJBE. Then another option use to come on the screen offering to scan as a PDF, JPEG etc but that option is no longer available, it’s just assis me to ok it and then a window on the pc opens headed up Windows Scan and Fax

- Don’t use it very often - would say within the last month

- No changes to the printer that I know about

- Using windows 10 on a desktop

Hope that helps

Many thanks

Rob

Hi @Robirv75,

Thank you for sharing the above information.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day
