For past few days, have been unable to scan documents whether using my Mac desktop (operating system macOS Sonoma, v 14.6.1) or iPhone 13. In both cases, I get message "scanner is busy" even though it's not. Tried all kinds of online troubleshooting tips. None worked so I went so far as to switch to a backup 6055 printer. Same message! I am connected wirelessly. I can print and copy. Just not scan. Any suggestions? Thanks.

@timlaz, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP ENVY 6055 printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Since you've already tried various troubleshooting steps and even switched to a backup HP ENVY 6055 printer with the same "scanner is busy" message, the issue likely lies with the software, network, or drivers rather than the hardware. Here are some suggestions to resolve it:
1. Restart Everything
- Power cycle your printer, Mac, and iPhone.
- Unplug the printer from power, wait 2 minutes, then reconnect and turn it on.
- Restart your Wi-Fi router.
2. Reset HP Smart & Reinstall Drivers
On Mac:
- Open HP Smart and sign out.
- Uninstall HP Smart from Applications > Move to Trash.
- Reinstall HP Smart from the Mac App Store.
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, remove the HP ENVY 6055, and re-add it.
On iPhone:
- Open HP Smart and sign out.
- Uninstall and reinstall HP Smart from the App Store.
- Reconnect your printer in the app.
3. Use Image Capture on Mac
- Open Image Capture (Finder > Applications > Image Capture).
- Select your HP printer and try scanning.
- If it works here, HP Smart may be the issue.
4. Change Connection Type
- If scanning wirelessly, try switching to a USB connection and check if scanning works.
- If using Wi-Fi, ensure your printer and devices are on the same network.

5. Reset Printing System on Mac
- System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click your printer and select Reset Printing System.
- Re-add the printer and try scanning.
6. Check HP Scan Process (Mac)
- Open Activity Monitor (Finder > Applications > Utilities).
- Search for HP scanning processes (like HPScanner or HPSmart).
- Force quit any related processes and try scanning again.
7. Update Firmware
- Visit HP’s support website and check if there's a firmware update for your printer.
8. Run HP Print & Scan Doctor
- On a Windows PC, download HP Print and Scan Doctor, run the scan test, and apply any fixes it suggests.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
