Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I used to be able to send FAXes from my computer using HP UFD. At some point (I'm not sure when' since I don't use it frequently)' probably after a new windows update, the UFD does not find the printer any longer. According to windows I have the last driver version.

@BoazS

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I am a little hesitant to uninstall-reinstall the printer,  so please bear with me for some preliminary questions.

steps 1-3: these are the HP apps I get under WIN 10 "apps & featuers":

HP apps.png

shall I unistall all of them or just the first one?

* step 5: these are the items shown:

printers scanners.png

Should I delete all of the HP products? should I also delete the first item ("FAX")? I think not but better be safe.

Last but definitely not least:  Is there a way of taking a backup/checkpoint for a fallback in case the reinstall does not succeed and I am left without  a functional printer?

Ooops.  I see that the pictures were not uploaded correctly.

The first list was (for steps 1-3):

* HP Officejet Pro 6830 Basic Device Software

* Hp Officejet Pro 6830 Help

* HP Universal Fax Driver

* Hp Update

Second list (for step 5):

* Fax

* Fax- HP Officejet Pro 6830

*HP Universal Fax Driver

*HP032D33 (HP Officejet Pro 6830)

Sorry about the hassle.

For the first list, you can remove all except HP Update. From the second list, you can remove all.

Thanks again.

I will defer reinstalling the printer until I really need the FAQS (hopefully: never ;-)) since I don't want to risk getting  stuck without a functional printer.

Will report when applied.
