I got a username or password are incorrect error after scanning without issue for a year. On Reseach I found that in **bleep** the “allow less secure apps” needs to be toggled on. HOWEVER, **bleep** eliminated this option after 5/30/2022. Is there a workaround??? How do we now scan from email? I have a MFP M281fdw

Was able to get it working by changing email to a go**daddy account instead of g**mail

Hi I may be a bit ignorant but I don't know what a go***daddy account is. I tried scanning to email from my yahoo account and got the same message as from my **bleep** account: "Username or password is incorrect..."
I think it is due to the change that Google made on May 30 2022. But not sure why Yahoo is also affected.
I would be grateful for some help. Why isn't HP broadcasting a solution here? It must be affecting thousands of people.

This forum blocks the names of email providers. if you take the asterisks out, it is the name of a hosting company where you can set up an email address. I have an account with them that does not have the security issues the g**mail accounts do. And you are correct, it is the change in security at g*mail that causes this problem. Specifically, they no longer allow you to set up g**mail to work from less secure applications, which allows it to work with out any sort of 2 factor authentication. So it wont work with a scanner etc. Hope that helps.

Got it. Many thanks for responding so fast.
I will look into the go**daddy account. Had never heard of it before.
Just curious why ya**hoo also not working. Did they also make a change recently?
Really can't believe HP doesn't have a fix for this.

I am having this same problem on two of my printers. Each one has a separate g account. I called hp and they wanted $49 to look into it since I was out of warranty. I told them about g stopping 3rd party apps end of May and she had no idea what I was talking about. Came to post on here then saw someone beat me to it. HP fix asap please. The fix isn't to get a new email from gd. Hp needs to have a workaround.

Hi! And I called Google One Support and they had no idea what I was talking about. Go figure.
Just tried setting up my Apple iCloud account to my printer/scanner (model 277dw) and no luck. Got same message I got on g**mail and ya**hoo.
Crazy stuff. Earth calling HP, where are you?

Just found the solution! An expert called Shlomi (ShlomiL) posted on June 8.
Here is his explanation:

Hi,
A such may occur due to your Google account security settings with their recent security changes.
First, open the following link and login to the same account as you set for the printer.
https://myaccount.google.com/security
Within the Signing in to Google section, be sure to turn on "2-Step Verification":
https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185839?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid
Next, create and use an App-Specific Password with the printer:
https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en
Once completing the changes update the outgoing email profile password to use the App Specific Password and then click Save and Test to ensure the problem has been resolved.
Regards,
Shlomi
