I'm on a Mac 15.3.2 and the scanner on my HP8710 is no longer working after years of no problems. What can I do to fix this?

@ToniG1, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 scanner is not functioning correctly on your Mac, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Check Software and Connectivity:

  • Ensure that your Mac operating system is updated to the latest version. You mentioned using version 15.3.2, but double-check for any available updates.
  • Verify that the printer is properly connected to your Mac, either via USB or over a network connection.
  • Ensure that you are using the latest HP software and drivers compatible with your macOS version. You can download these from HP's website.

Restart Devices:

  • Try restarting both your printer and your Mac. This could resolve minor connectivity issues.

Verify Scanner Settings:

  • Open the scanning application you typically use, and check if the scanner is recognized properly in the application settings.

HP Smart App:

  • Download and install the HP Smart App from the Mac App Store if you haven’t already. This app can help you troubleshoot and manage your printer functionality more effectively.

Check for Error Messages:

  • Look for any error codes or messages on your printer's display screen. These can provide clues for specific issues.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Perform a reset on your printer by unplugging it from the power outlet, waiting for about 60 seconds, and then plugging it back in.

Check Scanner Light:

  • Ensure the scanner light is functioning. If the scanner bar doesn't move or the light doesn't turn on, there may be a hardware malfunction.
