The viewed document has hundreds of vertical lines after being scanned on my Officejet Pro 8600. It will happen if left on the glass to be scanned or run thru the automatic scanner. The glass appears to be clean

This solved the problem. The white back board and glass didn't look dirty but after cleaning it worked.
