@CONNIEBR1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Understanding "Scan Error 41" on Your HP LaserJet MFP M234sdwe Printer

The "Scan Error 41" message on your HP LaserJet MFP M234sdwe Printer usually points to a hardware issue with the scanner. This can include:

  • A jammed scanner mechanism
  • Failure of the scanner lamp or sensor
  • Communication problems between the scanner and the printer's mainboard

Steps to Resolve Scan Error 41:

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it from the power source and wait for 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

This process can help clear temporary hardware issues.

Inspect for Blockages

  • Open the scanner lid and check for any obstructions blocking the scanner bar.
  • If visible, gently attempt to move the scanner bar to see if it is stuck.

Update the Firmware

Utilize HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download it from: HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Run the tool and follow the on-screen prompts to diagnose and fix scanning problems.

Try Alternative Scanning Methods

  • Use Windows Fax and Scan or the HP Smart App for scanning.
  • This may help bypass any interface-related issues.

Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

Caution: This will erase all custom settings.

  • On the printer control panel, navigate to:
    • Menu > Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
