Welcome to the HP English Community --

We do not judge what people decide.

You should have the tech that you want.

I understand you did not ask for help.

The following is provided FYI only.

Use or ignore as suits your situation.

I had an OfficeJet Pro 9025 from the time they were introduced until I replaced it in early 2024 with the OfficeJet Pro 9135e.

Both are -- in my opinion -- excellent printers.

In my opinion, both printers share a few idiosyncrasies:

  • Printers might need a Power Reset if shut down in the middle of a job.  Basics:  Leave switched on > Unplug printer > Wait 2 minutes > Plug printer into a standard wall socket > Wait to boot (or click printer power to start)
  • The printer does best on a robust network guided by a strong, up-to-date, fully configured router.  Many issues can be tracked back to an outdated, poorly configured, old router.  (No, I'm not interested in defending that comment.)
  • For best performance, run the printer with a manual, static IP address.
  • Avoid Wireless if you can do so - a decently configured Ethernet network can provide a more stable environment.
  • Wireless >> If the 9025 printer must depend on a wireless network, it is best served on a network that supports separate SSID named networks for each of the supported frequencies > 2.4GHz and 5GHz.  EWS_9025_Network_IPv4_Configuration_6EWS_9025_Network_IPv4_Configuration_6 SSID_Dual_Band_Example_Router_2SSID_Dual_Band_Example_Router_2
  • The printer likes to be kept very clean.
  • The printer likes to be used at least once a week to print - consider any job that uses more than just black ink.
  • Windows >>  Install the Full Driver printer software to support scanning and printing, including jobs using other programs (Office / Word, Adobe Reader, third party software).  The Full Driver printer software includes HP Scan.  No sign-in to use. (Installation and examples in section "Printer Software")
  • Windows >> Unless you are using it more than occasionally, switch OFF "Manage Scan to Computer" .   The process can be switched on just before needed.  This is a suggestion - do what you like.
  • Windows >> Do not let Windows manage your printer -- Instead, assign the Default printer.  Default_Printer_Check_and_Manage_2Default_Printer_Check_and_Manage_2
  • Windows >> HP Smart is happier in a network as described:  Robust, No VPN, Ethernet, Manual IP address.  True, the application requires that you sign in to use most of the features.

=====================================

Printer Software

If you have not yet done so, install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver generally adds at one, possibly least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and/or HP Scan.

NOTES:

HP Scan is not installed if the printer does not support Scan.

The Printer Assistant is not installed if the type of full driver software does not support it.

If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, Fax software is installed to support the setup and use of the Fax driver.

No Sign-in required to use full driver printer software.

Reinstalling?

  • Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.

Reference:  Uninstall HP printer software and drivers / HP Smart

  • If your printer software includes a separate "Help" segment in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
  • Restart the computer and log in.
  • If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

>>> Full Feature Software - Web Pack Installation Webpage - Information - Download / Save / (then) Install <<<

HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 All-in-One EasyStart Printer Setup Software – Offline Use Only

In general, the web pack should load -

Download package > Save > Right-Click on the installation Package > Run as Administrator

If / When asked, opt for the Full Driver / Full Software to be installed.

Using USB?  (Re)Connect when instructed to do so.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one or more shortcuts to the Desktop.

Note Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.

  • Printer Assistant – Where still supported as part of the full driver printer software
  • HP Scan – Shortcut on Desktop named for the printer model

OR

  • HP Scan Assistant – For those printers that no longer provide the Printer Assistant
  • HP Scan - Shortcut named for itself

AND / OR

  • When installed, HP Universal Scan software adds a separate self-named “HP Scan” shortcut
  • NOTE >> If you install the full driver printer software, installing HP Universal Scan as a standalone software from category Software & Drivers is not necessary.  The system will allow you to install both.

Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable
