Am trying to scan manuscripts into Finale using their plug-in Smartscore Lite6 but SW does not see scanner.  Error message states that scanner must have a WIA.xxxx driver.  Where do I find this for my 8100 and how do I install it?  Will it interfere with my other computer (Mac) from using the 8100?

@Bassdog,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues related to HP Printer. Don't worry I'll be glad to assist you.

After reviewing your post, I did go through the Printer Product Specifications and found that this printer does not support scan feature.

If you have issues, printing I would suggest you try to do a clean install of the printer drivers:

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.

Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.

Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

Restart your computer.

Now click  https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL40109/bi-108867-4/OJ8100_1321-1.exe to download and install the software.

Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

Not sure what you are looking at Jeet but this is an All in One unit that prints, scans, faxes, ... The scanner works great but I can't get it to interface with the Finale program without a WIA driver.  That is what I am searching for.

Thank you for your reply.

As @Jeet_singh is out of the office today, I'm replying to you.

During my research on this case, I fond that if you would like to use your own application and use HP Scan to import the images then it will not work.

Depending on the application you are using, there maybe able to import the images via a different method.

Hope this information helps. Let me know.

Cheers! 🙂

I can import the item as a TIF file.  I have tried scanning the manuscript as a JPG and converting to TIF but the program did not recognize it.  My best option is to scan the manuscipt directly into the program but the program does not see the scanner.  The program states that the scanner must have a WIA driver for it to interface with the program.  This is why I'm trying to determine if a WIA driver is available for my 8100 Officejet.

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and effort.

I understand the issue better now.

As you have already installed the printer driver, check the Windows Acquisition settings.

  1. Search Windows for view local services, and then click the View local services Control panel setting in the list of results.

    The Services window opens.

  2. Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) in the Name column and look at the Status and Startup type values.

    • If the status is 'Started' and the Startup type is 'Automatic', WIA is running correctly. Skip to the next step.

    • If the status is 'Disabled', right-click Windows Image Acquisition (WIA), click Properties, click the General tab, click Start under the Service status, and then select Automatic from the Startup type dropdown menu.

  3. Try to scan.

Thanks for your help SandyTechy.  I did find that the WIA was set to MANUAL and was not running.  I set it to AUTO and started it.  I then started Finale and tried to scan from that program which uses SmartScore Lite as the scanner interface.  I ran into the same problem as SmartScore says the scanner is Not Ready.  When I try to select the scanner, the select window is blank and the OfficeJet is not listed.  I get the message:

"Most All-in-One scanners work best with 'WIA.xxxx drivers'. Push 'Select Scanner' below.  Choose WIA.xxxx first.  If results are not adequate, select an alternate driver."

Seems that the program recognizes that I have an All-in-One device but will not interface with it.  I am trying to contact SmartScore to see if they can shed some light on this.

Would you agree that I do have a WIA driver installed and that it is running?  Thanks/BD

Windows Image Acquisition (WIA; sometimes also called Windows Imaging Architecture) is a proprietary Microsoft driver model and application programming interface (API) for Microsoft Windows Me and later Windows operating systems that enables graphics software to communicate with imaging hardware such as scanners.

Therefore, it is installed and running on your PC. You could contact SmartScore and check with them.

If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out to us.

Cheers 🙂
