Hi, can anyone help please? My scanner has stopped working on my printer. I have looked through this forum and tried many of the suggestions for this issue and I don't know what to do really. The stuff with the windows key + R going into services all looks to be how it should. Can anyone help please?

Hello @Stevie5tapes
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Press key combo "Windows Key + S" enter "service" > click on Service App
> change the Startup type to Automatic for the following services
- Shell Hardware Detection = ShellHWDetection
- Print Spooler = Spooler
- Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) = stisvc
Hope that helps.
Kind Regards

That's correct. But please type “Service” (without the quotes) into the search field below.

Unfortunately, I forgot to mention that the system (laptop, etc.) needs to be restarted afterward.
But thank you—you’ve already restarted it.
Is this your printer? <<< please click or give me the Partnumber (see Label)
Do you have the HP Smart or HP app installed?

Here's what you need to do:
- Uninstall HP printer software, and then remove the printer from your Devices list.
Note: including HP Smart - Restart the PC
- Close all programs
- download only this complete package: HP LaserJet MFP M140w EasyStart Printer Setup Software - Offline Use Only
- Close all programs
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the EXE,
File name:
HPEasyStart-13.6.5-LJM139-M142_UWL_54_3_5248_1_Webpack.exe
(186.1 MB) - The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
- Restart the System again
- Now the installation is complete.
Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.
Hope that helps.
Once the scanner is working again, please install this software: ReadIRIS Advanced OCR
Kind Regards
