Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just got a new DELL computer with WIN10.  I can print okay, but scanning is a problem.  On my old WIN7 machine I had an icon on my desktop for the HP Printer Assistant that I clicked and that application gave me the ability to scan.   How do I get that icon on my new computer?  Do I have to download the drivers to my new computer?  I was hesitant to do that since I can print so I assume the drivers are already on my new computer.

Windows provides basic print drivers - enough to print with most printers regardless of brand.

Short Version

Download-Save-Install the Full Feature Software for your printer

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Printer Assistant shortcut icon named for your printer will be added to your Desktop.

The PA works essentially in the same way it did in Windows 7, though there is a chance it may look a little different from an older version you might have had installed.

Basic Instructions:

  • Uninstall the existing printer software from Programs and Features
  • Restart the computer and log in
  • Open Category Software and Drivers in your printer Support Website
  • Download-and-Save the Full Feature Software or HP Easy Start Printer Setup for your Operating System version.
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the software installation package (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation

NOTE

  1. If you use the EasyStart method, select the Full Feature Software (full driver) when the option is presented.
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Dragon-Fur,

Thank You!  I down loaded the drivers and with some minor glitches, I got all of the printer functions working.  I'm not much of a "techie" so I appreciate the advice and support.
