Hi @MMA9,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e is requiring you to manually press "Finish" before sending the scanned document via email. This usually happens when the printer is waiting for confirmation that you've completed scanning all pages. Here are a few things to check and try.
Enable Auto Send for Scan to Email
- On the printer control panel, go to Scan > Scan to Email.
- Look for an Auto Send or Auto Finish option and enable it.
- If this option is unavailable, the printer may be designed to require manual confirmation.
Check HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) Settings
- Open a web browser on your computer.
- Type the printer's IP address in the address bar and press Enter.
- Navigate to Scan > Scan to Email Setup.
- Check if there is an option to automatically send scanned documents without pressing "Finish."
Update Printer Firmware
- Outdated firmware can cause unexpected behavior.
- Go to HP Support (support.hp.com) and check for firmware updates for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e.
Try HP Smart App for Scanning
- If you're using the printer's touchscreen, try scanning using the HP Smart app on your PC or mobile device.
- The HP Smart app often streamlines the process and may automatically send scans without requiring manual confirmation.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @MMA9, Thank you for getting back to us. If the options mentioned are not available, let's try a few alternative solutions:
1. Check Scan Settings on the Printer
- On the printer control panel, go to Scan > Scan to Email.
- Look for an "Settings" or "Options" menu.
- If available, check if there is an option related to automatic sending or auto finish.
2. Check HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) for Advanced Settings
Even if you didn't find the option initially, let's double-check:
- Open a web browser on your computer.
- Type the printer's IP address (found on the printer’s network settings).
- Navigate to Scan > Scan to Email Setup and explore available settings.
- If there is an option to bypass manual confirmation, enable it.
3. Use HP Scan Software or HP Smart App
If the printer’s built-in scan options don’t allow auto-sending, try scanning via software:
- HP Smart App (PC or mobile) – Check if it allows direct email sending without extra steps.
- HP Scan Software (part of the full driver package) – This may provide more scan-to-email automation.
4. Firmware Update & Reset
- Ensure the printer is running the latest firmware from HP Support.
- If issues persist, try a Restore Factory Defaults on the printer under Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore (this may reset email settings).
If my response helped resolve your issue, kindly click “Accepted Solution” — it will help others find their way to the solution as well. And if you’d like to show appreciation, clicking the “Kudos/Thumbs Up” at the bottom right will let me know!
Take care and have an amazing day ahead!
