Hi @tcharrison62,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are the scanned documents may not be opening with the appropriate software or the file format may not be recognized correctly by your computer.

Here are some steps you can try to fix the issue:

Check File Format: Make sure that the scanned documents are saved in a common file format such as PDF, JPEG, or TIFF. If they are saved in a less common or proprietary format, your computer may not recognize them.

Use the Right Software: Ensure that you have the appropriate software installed on your computer to open the scanned documents. For example, Adobe Acrobat Reader is commonly used to open PDF files, while image viewing software like Windows Photo Viewer or macOS Preview can open image files such as JPEG or TIFF.

Update Software: Make sure that your software is up to date. Sometimes, outdated software may not properly recognize newer file formats or may have compatibility issues.  Software and Drivers for HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-in-One Printer

Try Different Software: If the documents still don't open correctly, try using a different software program to open them. Sometimes, certain software may have difficulty opening specific file formats.

Check for Corrupted Files: If the scanned documents were not saved properly or were corrupted during the scanning process, they may not open correctly. Try rescanning the documents and saving them again to see if the issue persists.

Rename the File Extension: Sometimes, the file extension may be incorrect or missing, which can cause the file not to open properly. Try renaming the file extension to match the correct format (e.g., .pdf for PDF files, .jpg for JPEG files).

Check Printer Settings: Ensure that your printer settings are configured correctly when scanning documents. Make sure that the scanned documents are saved in a compatible format and that the settings match your preferences.
