HP Officejet 3830

This has been driving me absolutely crazy.  I'm missing deadlines because the hp 3830 won't scan.  Very frustrating. I've installed hp easy scan for mac and it did nothing. I've downloaded the updated software for the printer and it did nothing. The only way I can get it to scan is if I use webscan through HP. It doesn't even make sense that it would work for that, but not be detected by my MacBook. Earlier today I was able to scan and now I cannot.  Please, I really need help.  All the other forums only address Windows operating systems.
The printer is able to print and fax through my computer.

It is connected to the wireless internet we have with a good connection.

The scan option won't even show up in the printer series page on the mac. Only fax and printer.

I've tried resetting the network connection on the printer. Nothing.

I've adjusted my sharing settings for the mac and the printer so they would connect. Nothing.

I downloaded HP Easy scan and it won't detect the scanner.

I really need help with this, as my business is relying on it.

Hi @Jaduane

A warm welcome to HP Community!

We might be able to resolve the issue by Updating the printer firmware, setting up the printer with Apple AirPrint and then enabling Scan to computer. Here is how to do it:

Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with it's software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:

Update printer firmware

Update software on Mac

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

6.) On your Mac, click Finder, click Applications, click the Hewlett-Packard or HP folder, then double-click HP Utility. (If HP Utility is not available, download and install the install HP Utility from here

7.) Under Scan Settings, click Scan to Computer, then make sure the Enable Scan to Computer check box is selected.

8.) Try to scan.

Let me know how it goes!

Superb. It worked.

Thanks so much.

If you have to download the HP utility don't forget to quit printer utility and then reopen it.
