I own a Office Jet 6975

I am running Office 365

I am finally getting around to converting all of my old 3 ring bound training material to digital.  woohoo!  Except that my scanner is failing me a bit.  It jams, not the good way as in dancing to your favorite song.  The bad way as in I want to throw this contraption out of the window because in 100 years of printer engineering, hp has not figured out how to prevent a paper jam.

I digress.  here are the steps

1. paper jams

2. printer and hp smart app alerts me to the jam

3. I manually clear the jam

4. machine is as confused now as a pre-pubescent teen on high heels at her first dance

5. app to the rescue.  sort of.  the app has error still on screen, so I "x" out of it

6. then I hit back button

7. it then asks am I sure, dont you want to save first

8. I say yes, thank Uniblab, good robotty robotty, yes, I'd like that, please save

9. Then it saves, but doesnt tell me where.  bad uniblab, I am going to throw water on your circuits, unless....

Good people in the HPsphere, please save another computer from the scrap heap.  You are my only hope.  And his!  Bwahahahahahahaha.

Help please.

Welcome to the HP Community --

Many printers dislike paper with holes -- holes catch and grab when the paper travels through the rollers or ADF.

and

Specifications or the User Guide  include information on the type of paper for printing.

Scanning is similarly limited to supported paper types, particularly when you are using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).

True - Consumer grade printers are less robust in this area than are commercial printers.  That means, commercial grade printers are built to handle paper sizes, type, and paper in other than perfect condition. Consumer grade printers might reject certain paper sizes, type, or paper in other than perfect condition.

Is there an alternative using this printer?

Using the ADF, maybe not.

Printer might be the wrong tool for the job of scanning paper (that) the printer cannot manage.

If not done, consider cleaning the printer -

One of the documents from Troubleshooting > Printing > Jams

Step 1

HP printers - Automatic document feeder does not pick paper or feeds too many sheets

What else?

If I understand your description -- there is every chance I do not -- you are asking whether the scanned content completed before the jam is actually saved to a file (on device).

I think, too, that I've missed where you say which application or scan software you are using.  What you use makes a difference though I cannot say I'd change my assessment of the results.

My opinion is that the scanned content is not saved to disk --"X" out means less to me than you, of course.

I suspect the action has something to do with removing or undoing current page(s).

Generally applies to all scan jobs:

The entire job must be completed before the content is saved to a file on your device (computer, tablet, phone).

What if?

This is where what you are using makes a difference in the way the job is completed (finished).

If the partially failed job did save some content -- where would it "go"?

HP Smart tends to force you to choose a destination.  That means, you must select / accept a destination to complete the scan job.  If you do not have to select a folder, the job is not complete.

HP Scan selects the destination according to the instructions in the HP Scan shortcut / Custom shortcut.

HP Smart > Shortcuts saves scan content of one of the Cloud storage options as selected when you created the Shortcut.

Common folders (Windows)

Documents > possibly a sub-folder

Pictures > likely a sub-folder

Document or Pictures folder > HP Smart folder

OneDrive - Documents or Pictures
