Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

I followed all the troubleshooting instructions I could find, including all other printer and scanner apps, deleting the cache, deleting the data, rebooting then reinstalling the HP Smart App, but nothing helped.

Suspecting a problem with the printer, I purchased a used 3830, but the so-called Smart App claims that neither can scan.

An interesting aside, the first time I tried to scan from the printer, it sends me to the Android's FILE SYSTEM!

And to my surprize, when I searched through other apps, though they don't SPECIFICALLY say you can't scan from a scanner anymore, when I load them, the camera is the only method of scanning available.

And every AI assistent I asked, claims that the HP Smart App (and others I've tried) CAN scan from a printer to a phone!

Have manufacturers decided that nobody should be able to scan images and documents from a flst-bed scanner into their phone's and tablets?

HP HAS WASTED NEARLY A MONTH OF MY LIFE AS I'VE SEARCHED FOR A RESOLUTION TO THIS *PROBLEM*?

And by what right does HP do this to hardware I PURCHASED specifically for this use?!

Should I return the printers and ink I purchased?

Hi @JamezK

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

Are you able to make copies using scanner?

Do you get any error?

Check this docuemnt , click here

Ensure Proper Setup

Network Connection: Ensure that both the printer and your mobile device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This is crucial for the app to communicate with the printer.

Update Firmware: Make sure your printers have the latest firmware. You can usually check this in the printer settings or via the HP Smart App.

Alternative Scanning Methods

Using HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • If you're still having trouble, you can use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool on a computer (if available) to diagnose and fix scanning issues.

Try Other Apps:

  • While the HP Smart App is recommended, you can also explore other scanning apps like Adobe Scan or Microsoft Office Lens, which may offer different functionality.

Factory Reset the Printer

  1. Reset the Printer: If scanning still doesn't work, consider resetting your printer to factory settings. This may resolve any underlying issues.

Please refer to user manual, go to page no 58: click here

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
