why can't i get the scanner to work?  Printer works absolutely fine but the scanner does not with the Mac OS

If your HP OfficeJet 8015e All-In-One Printer's scanner is not working with your Mac, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem.

 

Ensure Printer Software is Installed

Make sure you have the latest HP printer software and drivers installed on your Mac. You can download the necessary software from the HP website.

Check HP Smart App

HP recommends using the HP Smart app to manage your printer functions, including scanning. Ensure you have the HP Smart app installed on your Mac, which you can download from the Mac App Store.

Check Connections

Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your Mac, either via USB or through the same Wi-Fi network. If using Wi-Fi, confirm that the connection is stable.

Update MacOS

Ensure your MacOS is up to date. Sometimes, compatibility issues arise with older versions of the operating system.

Restart Devices

Try restarting both your Mac and the printer. This can often resolve temporary software glitches.

Reset Printing System

  1. Open System Preferences on your Mac.
  2. Select Printers & Scanners.
  3. Right-click (or Control-click) in the list of devices on the left side and select Reset printing system.
  4. This will remove all printers and scanners from the list. Re-add your HP OfficeJet 8015e.

Check Scanner Settings

  1. Open the HP Easy Scan app or HP Smart app.
  2. Select your printer from the list.
  3. Follow the prompts to perform a scan.

Use Image Capture

  1. Open the Image Capture application on your Mac (found in the Applications folder).
  2. Select your HP OfficeJet 8015e from the list of devices.
  3. Try scanning directly from Image Capture.

Check Firewall Settings

Ensure that your Mac's firewall settings are not blocking the scanner function. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall and adjust settings if necessary.

Reinstall Printer

  1. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Select your printer and click the minus button to remove it.
  3. Add the printer again by clicking the plus button and following the prompts.

Check for Errors or Updates in HP Smart

  1. Open HP Smart.
  2. Look for any error messages or updates that might need your attention.
  3. Follow any troubleshooting steps provided by the app.

 

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially fix the scanner issues with your HP OfficeJet 8015e on your Mac.
