Why doesn't the HP Software work Properly on a Mac

So I have installed the HP App on both my Mac and Windows PC.

When I go to scan to computer, it sees the windows PC without a problem but the Mac does not show up. You search the web and it says to use the HP utility - but you can't download it as we now have to use the HP Smart App - which is not that smart.  

Why can't we just go back to drivers and utilities - more options to configure - I do not like the App.  I can of course scan to my computer using the software from my Mac - but its in another room and I would prefer when I go to put the document in to tell it to scan to my Mac at the printer.  Not load the document, go back to my Mac, scan then go back and get the document off the printer.

 I try to set up Scan to Network folder - I put in my user ID and Password for my Mac and I am told invalid user credentials - if they were invalid I would not be able to log into my computer.  The folder is shared and I put in the correct IP address and folder name.

A lot of people seem to be having this problem.  HP really need to get their App working on Mac's properly.  It is frustrating when you can not use the functions of the printer that you primarily bough the printer for!

Has anyone been able to get these two functions to work?

For Scan to Computer, the feature is supported on Windows Only, as clearly listed on page 84 of its user guide:

For the share folder, please follow below knowledge article, contributed by @StretchMusic , be sure to set the current GMT time for the printer as listed, I believe this should resolve the invalid user credentials error:

Thanks for the reply.  I should have checked the manual first re scan to computer.

In relation to Scan to a Network folder, I followed the instructions in the link you provided and alas it still did not work.

Just as a note, the MFP M479 supports time zones as you can select the time zone in the printers settings.  Both my printer and my MacBook are in the same time zone.

I think that I'll give up, do some more research and buy a printer that does what I want without the hassle.
