When I scan my files are too large to email. Approx 2MB per one black and white page. Colour settings only offer Colour or Greyscale - No Black and White? I choose Greyscale and 300 DPI  but still files are too large.  Any help would be appreciated

@shaunj,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • Are you scanning documents or photos?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While you respond to that, reducing the resolution is one way to get a smaller file size.

1. From the HP Scan, click on "More" - top right hand.

2. Go to "Image" and select a lower Resolution. If you are scanning documents then reduce the DPI to the least available.

3. Scan and save, it should be of a smaller file.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thanks for the reply. I am scanning documents, have not made changes to my computer and have tried searching  the internet forsolutions but not sure what you meam by troubleshooting?

I typically use DPI of 300 , greyscale and compression low. I have tried using DPI of 150 but documents are detailed and clerity is poor. I have read greyscale can create a larger file than black and white but do not see that option, only colour or greyscale.

Would you have any other suggestions to reduce the file size?

Thanks

@shaunj,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

I recommend you use 200 DPI and check. There is no other way to reduce the file size which I am aware of.

I have the HP Officejet 4650 and ther is no 200 DPI option 150 then 300.

Looking for another solution

Thanks

@shaunj,

I recommend you scan using the 150 DPI option as there is no other option to reduce the file size.

Hope that helps.

Good day! Take care 🙂

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply but as mentioned earlier, 150 DPI is not detailed enough. I guess HP has no solution.

@shaunj,

I would like to inform you that 2MB file size and normal. However, I would like to know from which software you are scanning.

I await a response at your earliest convenience.

Good day! Take care 🙂

Cheers!

Thanks. I am using the scanning software that came with my HP Officejet 4650. 2Mb for one page seems high to me. I run into trouble as many of my documents are 10 -15 pages and then the file is 20MB + and can be difficult to email.

@shaunj,

I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall it and check if it helps.

Here is how it is done.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.

15.) Connect the USB cable ONLY when prompted and follow the on-screen instructions.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
