HP ENVY Pro 6458 All-in-One Printer

I'm phrasing this as a question, though it's not in the sense that I'm not really holding out for any solutions. (Though if someone has one, great!)

Scanning documents using the ENVY Pro 6458 I bought not too long ago, I discovered to my surprise that the maximum page size using the ADF is 215.9mm × 297mm, exactly the same as the flatbed.

That's not on the HP data sheet for the 6400 series (see below; it just says "Max scanning size | Flatbed: 216mm × 297mm" and doesn't mention the ADF at all), but the ADF max size is in the Specifications section of the manual.

That limitation makes no sense to me. There's no reason why the ADF couldn't scan pages longer than Letter size, in fact typically that's considered one of the advantages to having an ADF: You can scan pages longer than the flatbed area. Not with an ENVY Pro 6400-series ADF, though!

I'm not going to hold out any hope that HP would fix this in a firmware update or anything, even though it seems like they could. Artificial limitations like this are one of the things that make working with consumer hardware so frustrating.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Think it is possible to Copy/Scan Legal size document but need to change the tray settings to "Legal" via Embedded Web Server.

This example shows how to Copy Legal size document and how to change the settings - should be applicable to the Envy Poro 6400 series printers as well.

Can give it a try.

Hope that helps!

I am an HP Employee. Although I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
