Windows FAX and Scan app at times reports scanner not found why? Other times it will see both my wireless HP Envy 5020 and my HP PSC 1350.  If I use HP Smart Scan it will be ok.  I have rebooted PC and printer scanners when this occurs and it might or might clear the problem.  I am unable to use the HP Smart if I wish to use the PSC 1300 as most of the time it does not find it, so Windows Fax and Scan is a must-have.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

The source of the problem is perhaps the network losing track of your printer(s).

The "why" could be almost anything, including and not limited to:

  • Weak, out-dated router, or a router that is not fully or correctly configured to manage your devices
  • Printer location - distance and / or obstructions - both of these impact wireless performance
  • Printer connection type - for example, where available switching to a TCP/IP and / or a manual / static IP address - Links to help below in section References / Resources
  • Scanning is an intensive process - if the system is otherwise loaded or if the network is loaded, a scan might fail or balk part way through.
  • Less likely - perhaps worth checking - The Scan Profile might need to be checked / updated.

Of those listed, I can provide an example plate for the last one:  Scan Profile
