HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and older

Hello, I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 running as a terminal server. There are two printers 1) HP LaserJet Professional M1214nfh MFP, 2) HP LaserJet Professional M1212nf MFP
When installing with HP Smart Install, the scan drivers are installed. But I can only scan from the printer that was installed last.
For example, I install the HP LaserJet Professional M1214nfh MFP using HP Smart Install and I can scan from that printer. But if I install the HP LaserJet Professional M1212nf MFP using HP Smart Install, I can only scan from that printer. I see that there are two scanner drivers installed, but when I select either one, only the HP LaserJet Professional M1212nf MFP scans because its drivers were the last ones installed.
How can I make it so that I only scan from the printer I need, not just the last one I connected.

I will add to my answer. During the installation of the driver package, I can specify the IP address of the printer and not only install the printer drivers, but also the scanner. The IP address of the first printer is 192.168.0.31 after installing the drivers the scanning goes fine. But as soon as I add another printer with an IP of 192.168.0.35, all scanning is from that printer only.

Hello,

HP Smart Install is a software installation option that was distributed with many HP LaserJet Pro printers and multifunction (MFP) printers. HP no longer supports the Smart Install installation path. See HP Smart Install Discontinuation section for more information.

In this case, I recommend you to install your printer with HP LaserJet Pro M1130-M1210 MFP series Full Feature Software and Drivers.

Before starting the installation of the printer with the full feature software and drivers, please deactivate HP Smart Intall:

  • Open the HP Smart Install tab, uncheck the box next to Enable HP Smart Install and click Apply.

Don't hesitate to contact us in case of need.

Thank you for your attention to my problem. Unfortunately, I could not find the checkbox to disable HP Smart Install in my printers settings. I uninstalled the old versions of the drivers and software and installed the drivers from the link you gave me. Unfortunately, this did not solve my problem as I had no problem printing to the devices. I have a problem with scanning. And your link does not allow me to connect the scanner to scan over the network.

Thanks for your return,

Please configure a network folder for scanning. See Set up the Scan to Network Folder feature for more information.

If this does not work, I recommend that you update the printer's firmware to the latest version from the following HP link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-laserjet-pro-m1212nf-multifunction-pri....

The firmware is already up to date.

The instruction you gave is more about software setup. In this case it's Scan To. But even this software doesn't see the second scanner.

I will try to explain the problem in other words.

During the installation of the driver package, I can specify the IP address of the printer and not only install the printer drivers, but also the scanner. The IP address of the first printer is 192.168.0.31 after installing the drivers the scanning goes fine. Thanks for your return,

Unfortunately, we will not have a solution for this problem, because your two printers are from the same HP LaserJet Pro M1210 MFP series.

In this case, the drivers and software of the printer are in conflict, which is why you can only use one printer for scanning.

You may need to install the printer on a new user in Windows.

Don't hesitate to contact us in case of need.
