I purchased a HP Deskjet 2720 recently. After a couple of successful scanning, I am receiving error messages that say " Could not complete scan" under windows scan and Fax.

It sounds like you're encountering a communication or configuration issue between your HP DeskJet 2720 and Windows Fax and Scan, resulting in the "Could not complete scan" error. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Restart the Printer and PC

  • Power cycle both your HP DeskJet 2720 and your PC to clear any temporary issues or communication glitches.

Check the Printer Connection

  • USB Connection: If you're connected via USB, ensure the cable is securely plugged into both the printer and PC. Try a different USB port if necessary.
  • Wi-Fi Connection: If you're using Wi-Fi, verify that both the printer and PC are connected to the same network.

Reinstall the Printer Drivers

  • Sometimes, the scan function can stop working if there is an issue with the drivers.
    • Go to the HP DeskJet 2720 support page and download the latest drivers for your printer.
    • Uninstall the existing printer drivers from the Control Panel (Programs and Features), then reinstall the downloaded drivers.

Update Windows

  • Ensure that your version of Windows is up to date, as updates can fix bugs related to Windows Fax and Scan.
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Check the Scanner Settings

  • In Windows Fax and Scan, go to File > Scan Profile and check if your scanner is selected correctly. You can also try resetting the scan profile.
  • Try scanning from the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel to confirm the scanner works independently of Windows Fax and Scan.

Run the Printer Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Printer, and run the troubleshooter to check for any issues with the printer connection or functionality.

Check Firewall/Antivirus

  • Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software isn't blocking communication between the printer and PC. Temporarily disable it to see if it resolves the issue.
