Suddenly, my scan to printer does not work, and I enter the usual loop. I have downloaded HP's Diagnostic software, which allowed one test scan to work. But no more. I have deleted the printer, and then re-added it, with Windows not recommending a new driver. No change. The printer tells me I am current on product updates. I can find no printer icon that offers an 'activate scan to printer' option. What next?

Hi Tony,
If the HP Printer Assistant doesn't come up after your click on the shortcut, it may indicate that the FULL feature software is not installed.
Did you see any install errors?
Have you selected the FULL feature software from the HP website?
Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP forum.
Can you download and install the FULL feature printer software from HP for your operating system.
The following resource will help you :
HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL50403/mp-150580-2/hppiw.exe
Please "Save" to hard disk instead of installing online.
We would recommend that you uninstall the previous software before reinstalling.
Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.
How to Scan to Computer
Once you have installed the software:
1. Click on the printer Icon (on your desktop) and it will bring up the HP Printer Assistant.
2. Under the Scan menu, there is a “Manage Scan to Computer”, click on that.
3. Make sure that you “Enable” Scan to Computer. Also make sure the tab “Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log on to Windows” is checked if you want to make this feature permanent. (the following video will show you how)

Hope that helps!

I have done as you said, but no Printer Assistant comes up when I click on the Shortcut to the Printer. Why is HP software not smart enough to fix this problem automatically? Why is the Scan ever Deactivated?
I appreciate your continued help.

I think that worked! I had to IGNORE attempt ar deleting old driver that failed, and the system then bypassed my option to invoke the FULL service update at the HP website, but the new BASIC driver allowed me to scan without using the Assistant (which I still can't find!)
Thanks for your help, but why is it all so laborious?

Hi,
Glad to hear that your issue is resolved and all is working well now.
We are not sure what went wrong but the fact that Printer Assistant is not working is quite suspicious.
As an alternative, we can offer you this new Scan solution, which works independent of the scan solution of the full feature software:
HP Scan Extended
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
it's the scan software that is in our latest printers 🙂
Enjoy!
Have a nice day!

Do you think this might help mine also? The scanner quit working after I had Geek Squad install Windows 10. I found and used the "Printer and Scan Doctor". It seemed to work once. Now, it doesn't work again. I have a HP Officejet Pro 8615

Hi @snowcone82,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
The HP Scan Extended can be used on your printer. It'll be a standalone program with a new Scan Interface.
HP Scan Extended
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
Let us know if that works.
