Hi @Bones7859,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy Photo 7855's Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) works in copy mode but not in scan mode, it’s likely a software or configuration issue rather than a hardware fault since the ADF mechanism itself is functioning.

Here’s how to fix it:
1. Check Scan Source in HP Smart App or HP Scan

  • Open the HP Smart app or HP Scan on your PC or phone.
  • Select Scan > Source and make sure it’s set to "Document Feeder" (not "Flatbed").
  • If the option is missing, reinstall the full HP driver/software package.

2. Reinstall HP Software

3. Clean the ADF Rollers

Even if it works in copy mode, dust or misalignment can affect scan detection.

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the ADF cover and clean the paper pick rollers and separator pad with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  • Let it dry for 2 minutes before closing.

4. Use HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • Open HP Smart on Windows or macOS.
  • Click the wrench icon (Windows) or printer dropdown (Mac).
  • Run Diagnose & Fix to auto-correct scan issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
