Hi @Mangaliso

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

How to Scan Double-Sided Documents on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8023:

Using the HP Smart App (on your computer or smartphone):

  1. Open the HP Smart App on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8023 printer from the app.
  3. Tap on Scan and then select Document Scan.
  4. Under Scan Settings, you should see an option for "2-Sided" or "Duplex". Select this option.
  5. Place your document into the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) with the top of the page facing up.
  6. Click on Scan to begin the process. The printer will automatically scan both sides of each page.

Using the Printer’s Control Panel (Directly from the Printer):

  1. Place the document you want to scan into the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) with the top side facing up.
  2. On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the Scan menu.
  3. Select Scan to Email, Scan to Computer, or another scan destination option (depending on your preference).
  4. In the scan settings, look for an option for "Duplex" or "Two-Sided" scanning and select it.
  5. Start the scan, and the printer will automatically scan both sides of the document.

Scan Settings (Additional Options):

  • You can adjust the scan quality, file type (PDF, JPEG, etc.), and other settings before starting the scan.
  • Make sure that the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is used, as the flatbed scanner (scanner glass) does not support duplex scanning.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Document Size: Ensure that your document is within the supported size for the ADF (typically up to A4 or Letter size).
  • Paper Type: The ADF works best with standard paper (20 lb/75 gsm). Heavier or specialty papers may cause jams.
  • Clean the ADF: To ensure smooth duplex scanning, occasionally clean the ADF rollers with a soft cloth.

By following these steps, you should be able to scan both sides of your documents automatically without having to manually flip them.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Use HP Smart for Windows

Scan all the front sides in the ADF

Select to "Add pages"

Flip and Scan all the back sides

When the Scan view shows all the pages,

Click the tiny preview box to change the view so you see all the pages as "tiles".

Grab (Click and Drag) each page in turn > Reorder each page where you want it.
