Hi @SuzannaZ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If your HP Envy 7640 e All-in-One printer is giving an error message about the document feeder while you're trying to make a copy from the flatbed, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Select the Correct Source

  • Check Copy Settings: Ensure that the copy settings are set to use the flatbed. Sometimes, the printer may default to the document feeder.

2. Restart the Printer

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on again. This can help reset any temporary errors.

3. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  • Inspect the Document Feeder: Make sure there are no paper jams or obstructions in the document feeder that could be causing the error.
  • Open the Feeder: If your printer has a document feeder, open it and check for any stuck paper or foreign objects.

4. Perform a Reset

  • Factory Reset: If the error persists, consider performing a factory reset on the printer. Refer to the printer’s manual for instructions on how to do this.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Use the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel to check for updates.

6. Try Copying Again

  • Retry the Copy: Place the document you want to copy on the flatbed, ensuring it’s properly aligned, and try copying again.

7. Use Different Copying Methods

  • Try from the Control Panel: Use the printer’s control panel to initiate the copy instead of using your computer.
  • Use the HP Smart App: If you have the HP Smart app installed on your computer or mobile device, try using it to initiate the copy function.

These steps should help you troubleshoot and resolve the issue with copying from the flatbed on your HP Envy 7640 e All-in-One printer.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may indicate a hardware problem with the printer. In this case, contacting HP support for further assistance is recommended.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
