Hi @DU100

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're encountering some issues with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw on macOS 12.0 Monterey. You mentioned using the iOS app as a workaround, which works, but you likely want a solution for macOS as well.

Here are some steps that could help you troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer Setup

Ensure the printer is properly connected to your Mac, either via Wi-Fi or USB. If it's a Wi-Fi connection, confirm that both your Mac and printer are on the same network.

2. Update Drivers

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
  • Make sure you're downloading the latest macOS driver for the HP M479fdw.
  • Alternatively, macOS might already have basic drivers for the printer, but downloading the specific ones from HP's website might offer more features.

3. Use AirPrint

If you're experiencing issues with the HP drivers, you can try using AirPrint (which is built into macOS):

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Add your printer (if it's not listed), and ensure that it appears as "AirPrint" in the list of available printers.
  • Test printing through any app that supports AirPrint (like Preview or Safari).

4. Reset Printing System

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you can reset the printing system, which can fix printing-related problems:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or control-click) in the printer list and select Reset printing system.
  • This will remove all printers and reset the print queues. After resetting, re-add your HP printer.

5. Update macOS and Firmware

Ensure both your macOS and your printer's firmware are up to date. Sometimes bugs in older versions can cause compatibility issues.

6. Check for Software Conflicts

If you have third-party software installed (like firewall/security software), try disabling or uninstalling it temporarily to see if it's causing any interference with your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
