I can open the easy printer app, no problem.  Once there I can not open the scan tab which presents itself.

Looks like your printer is a bit old and Windows XP does not help. But for all it is due to

 

          https://www.adobe.com/au/products/flashplayer/end-of-life.html

 

therefore you can't open printer application for scan.
