cannot scan to email HP Color LaserJet CM2320fxi MFP
If anyone has a workaround for this I would love to know about it.
So far the only way I can find to fix this is to buy a new printer. If I have to buy a new printer it will not be an HP printer because of poor BIOS design/implementation and lack of support.
Comcast email or Xfinity email, whichever you prefer to call them, is the provider.
Comcast has disabled port 25 --> www . xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email
Please note:
- We do not support the use of port 25 for sending email
Setting the printer email config to smtp.comcast.net and port 587 passes a "connectivity" test on the printer but scan to email still fails.
Apparently whoever programmed the printer bios did not include the option to set a username and password in the scan to email configuration.
Xfinity solution that doesn't work doe to lack of support in HP BIOS --> forums.xfinity.com/conversations/internet/answered-canon-printer-scan-to-email-configuration/602da9cdc5375f08cd3e82fb
Here is how:
- configure the management name/pin.
- login as management to the the web UI browser, http://printer-ip/
- change the SMTP TX port to 587, find it at System Settings -> Network Settings -> TCP/IP Settings -> Port Number Settings
- Enter the info in E-Mails Settings System Settings -> Network Settings -> E-Mail Setting
SMTP Server Addess: smtp.comcast.net
E-Mail Address: your@address
Check Use SMTP Auth
Enter your username: your@comcast.net
Check Set/Change Password
Password: Your password.
5. Instruction says to power cycle for the new settings, do it.

Deciding whether to purchase an HP product is your choice.
Purchase what you think is the best device for your environment.
HP and other manufacturers all make very fine products.
Try / Consider
OK - there is no direct evidence that the Embedded Web Server (EWS) on this printer supports configuring SMTP / Scan to Email.
Keep that in mind when reading the provided example - the information might be useful even if you must configure the settings using the printer panel as described in the HP Color LaserJet CM2320 MFP - User Guide and HP Color LaserJet CM2320 MFP - Scan Tasks
First, consider trying SMTP port 465
Check your email provider security -
If you are using a two-step verification with the email,
Set an "Apps Password"
OR
Set the security to "Less Secure"
=============================================================================
Example - EWS > SMTP - Scan-to-Email
If supported ...
Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Scan > Scan to Email > Settings / Scan to Email Setup
EWS_9020_Scan-to-Email_Setup_5

Yes, this printer [HP Color LaserJet CM2320fxi MFP] does support SMTP scan to email as evidenced by the Embedded Web Server (EWS) I logged into. And there is no two step verification configured on the email account specified. Not that it matters as there is no place in any interface provided either on the physical control panel or the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to input the information required for the first step. That information being a username and password.
This is not a "Pro 9020" printer.
Yes, port 465 is mentioned in the Comcast documentation and it does not work either. I also tried port 587 and, on a lark, port 25 again just to see if Comcast was lying.
As I mentioned earlier, when configuring port 587 the printer does a connectivity test and the test "PASSES". What I didn't mention earlier is the test only seems to happen when scan to email is configured from the menu in the control panel which is physically part of the printer. The menu in the physical control panel allows all the same settings as are available in the Embedded Web Server (EWS). When ports 465 and 587 are configured the control panel shows a "spinning rainbow" with the words "Testing gateway." beneath the spinning rainbow and when the rainbow disappears it's replaced by a green checkmark with the word "Pass" underneath it. If a nonworking SMTP port is configured, 464 for example, then the rainbow disappears and is replaced by a yellow triangle with a "!" in the middle and words that indicate a failure beneath the triangle.
The problem doesn't appear to be "connectivity" it appears to be "authentication".

Well, rats - I am sorry I could not help.
Two-Step verification, if it is set, is handled in the email provider security - true - there is no access to the setting in the printer configuration . There are at least a couple of email providers that are invested in two-step verification - worth a mention.
True - yours is not an HP OfficeJet 9025 - that's what I have and that's the "example" I had to offer - providing the example was just a means of not "retyping" information when I need not do so. Yes, it is obvious now that the visual differences negate any value in the example.
Too bad about the various ports - and yes, I would have expected the 587 port to have worked.
Frankly, I don't know your product line or the printer...
I should not venture any more "Easter Egg" guesses that are likely a waste of our time.
That said, if you have not done so, try an email address other than one at this provider (comcast).
Why?
No real reason, just a means of checking that authentication setup with a different email provider.
We do have one or two Experts here that better understand the Laser product line - and perhaps can shed some light on your situation.

That is an interesting proposal. I'm not very hopeful but if you know of an email server out in the wild that does not require authentication I'd give it a shot.
I'll have to look for an email server/provider that accepts SMTP submissions with no authentication. I imagine if there are any they would be disreputable at best since an open SMTP port goes against all present day security guidelines.
I guess if I get really desperate I could try setting up my own email server on my private network and bounce the emails out from inside the firewall.

If you are happy with the rest of the function and do not want to replace the device your best option would be to configure a scan to your PC and then attach the document when sending email from your desktop client. I know it is extra steps but appears to be the only solution as any documentation I see for the CM2320 shows not authentication option. https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c01544065
I am assuming that your firmware is up to date, however inclusion of authentication is not listed as an included feature update in firmware documentation either.

I'm assuming my firmware is up to date as well but what is the latest firmware version for the HP Color LaserJet CM2320fxi MFP and can you provide a link to it? Thanks. Since you say there is no mention of an authentication option in the firmware documentation I'm not sure what value questioning the pedigree of the firmware brings to the table.
It looks like the "scan to PC" solution relies on something called the "HP Program Group". I'm not familiar with the "HP Program Group" is this something on the printer or on a computer connected to the same network as the printer? Have you personally used the "scan to PC" functionality with one of these HP printers before?
If the "HP Program Group" is something on a computer connected to the same network as the printer where can I find a Linux version? I don't have any Windows or Apple machines.

If anyone knows what a "HP Program Group" is and where I can find one for Linux feel free to provide the information and I'll see if it's even a viable solution.
Right now there is no solution I can find other than new firmware that support SMTP authentication.
