Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to scan to email and am getting a server error that says the printer cannot connect to the web server. The server might be busy or unavailable. I just used this feature a month ago. I have an HP ENVY 5660. I have gone through all the HP troubleshooting suggestions my printer does automatic updates and is up to date. How can I resolve this problem?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's remove and add web services:

To remove Web Services 1. From the printer control panel display, touch (ePrint), and then touch (Web Services Settings). 2. Touch Remove Web Services.

To set up Web Services using the printer control panel 1. From the printer control panel display, touch Setup. 2. Touch Web Services Setup. 3. Touch Accept to accept the Web Services terms of use and enable Web Services. 4. In the Auto Update screen, touch Yes to allow the printer to automatically check for and install product updates.

NOTE: If a printer update is available, the printer will download and install the update, and then restart. You will have to repeat the instructions from step 1 to set up ePrint.

NOTE: If prompted for proxy settings and if your network uses proxy settings, follow the onscreen instructions to set up a proxy server. If you do not have the proxy details, contact your network administrator or the person who set up the network.

5. When the printer is connected to the server, the printer prints an information page. Follow the instructions on the information page to finish the setup

Let me know if this helps.

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution button, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

I tried this, and while it did fix another issue (print from e-mail), I still get an error when trying to scan-to-email.   I've been fighting this all day, and in desperation I re-created the self-signed certificate.  Then I started getting this:

Configuration

The printer is unable to validate the server’s security certificate because the certificate is either self-signed or has been issued by an unknown authority. To enable the printer to validate the certificate, import trusted CA (Certificate Authority) certificates into the printer.

To import the certificate, go to the Certificates page, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

Click "OK" to go back.

After resetting all kinds network items, and reinstalling the Web Services, I'm finally back to:

Configuration

SMTP email server error. The server might be down or busy. Try again later.

This printer is driving me up the wall, it also sporadically disconnects from the network, i.e., for HP Instant Ink, so once a month I have to switch from wired to wireless or vice versa to make it reconnect!?

Some email account service providers, such as Google or Yahoo, block access by third-party apps for security reasons. To allow the scan to email feature access to your email account, go to your email account service provider for detailed steps.

NOTE:

If you turned on two-step authentication, you must create an application password for the scan to email feature to access to your email account. See your email account provider for more information.

  • **bleep**: Go to Allowing less secure apps to access your account (in English), and then follow the on-screen instructions.

  • Yahoo: Go to Ways to securely access Yahoo Mail (in English), and then follow the on-screen instructions.

  • Other email accounts: From a trusted device, sign in to your email account. Go to your account settings, search for authentication, SMTP, or security, and then follow the on-screen instructions to set-up access for the scan to email feature.

Let me know how this goes!

Sure enough.  Could not find a work-around for my normal e-mail provider, but switched to an alternate **bleep** e-mail account and it finally worked!

Thanks!
