When operating my all-in-one printer scanner via the app, the document type defaults to jpeg even when selecting 'document'. This results in multiple page scans being saved as separate peg files.
Q: Can the document type be changed to pdf in the app?
Thanks and apols if this has been covered elsewhere.

Hi @richard_neil,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query.
I would like to inform that you can change the default scan output from JPEG to PDF in the HP Smart app, but the option is a little hidden. I would request you to please follow the steps:
Open HP Smart App
- Launch the app on your phone or computer.
- Make sure your printer is connected and detected.
Go to Scan Settings
- Tap Scan from the home screen.
- In the scan preview window, look for the File Type or Save As option (usually a small drop‑down or gear icon).
Select PDF
- Change the file type from JPEG to PDF.
- If scanning multiple pages, choose Save as Single PDF (instead of separate files).
Adjust Preferences (Optional)
- In Settings → Scan Preferences, you can set PDF as the default file type so you don’t have to change it each time.
Save or Share
- After scanning, tap Save or Share.
- The document will now be stored as a PDF instead of multiple JPEGs.
Take care and have an amazing day!
