change default on scanner from PDF to JPG

I am going to be scanning thousands of photos and want to scan them all to JPEG format.  The default is PDF and it takes two more clicks to switch every time.  I just want the printer to automatically go to JPEG.  How do I change that default?

Printers often default scan to PDF because it’s versatile for documents.

HP’s newer models often lack on-device default tweaks, pushing users to software or EWS. Older models like the OfficeJet 8500A had simpler JPEG/PDF toggles—progress.
