Hi @Rick-69,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To combine multiple scans into a single PDF file using your HP OfficeJet 5255 All-in-One Printer and an HP PC running Windows 11, follow these steps.
Using the HP Smart App
Install HP Smart (if not already installed):
- Download and install the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store.
Open HP Smart:
- Launch the app and add your HP OfficeJet 5255 if it’s not already connected.
Access the Scan Feature:
- Click on the Scan tile on the HP Smart app homepage.
Set Up Scan Preferences:
- Adjust your scan settings (e.g., resolution, file type). Ensure the file type is set to PDF.
Scan the First Page:
- Place the first page of your document on the scanner glass or in the document feeder.
- Click Scan to scan the first page.
Add More Pages:
- After scanning the first page, select Add Pages or a similar option in the app.
- Repeat the scanning process for all subsequent pages.
Save as a Single PDF:
- Once all pages are scanned, click Save, and choose the location to save your combined PDF file.
Using Windows Fax and Scan
Open Windows Fax and Scan:
- Press Win + S, type Windows Fax and Scan, and open the application.
Set Up Your Scanner:
- Click on New Scan and select your HP OfficeJet 5255.

Adjust Scan Settings:
- Set the file format to PDF (if available) and adjust the quality settings.
Scan Multiple Pages:
- After scanning the first page, save the file temporarily.
- Repeat for additional pages, saving each scan.
Combine Scans into One PDF:
- Use a PDF tool like Microsoft Print to PDF:
- Open all the scanned files in an image viewer or PDF editor.
- Select Print and choose Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer.
- Arrange the pages and save them as a single PDF file.
Using Third-Party PDF Software
Install a PDF Editor:
- Use tools like Adobe Acrobat, PDFsam, or free options like SmallPDF.
Scan and Combine:
- Scan all the pages individually.
- Open the PDF editor and use its merge or combine feature to compile the scanned files into a single PDF.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

To combine multiple PDFs into one, you can use dedicated PDF software like Adobe Acrobat or SwifDoo PDF, where you can access a "Combine Files" tool to select and arrange the PDFs you want to merge, or utilize online services that offer similar functionality, with options to drag and drop files, reorder them if needed, and then download the combined PDF.
Alternatively, depending on your operating system, you can use built-in features like Preview on Mac to merge PDFs by dragging page thumbnails between documents.
