I've followed the instructions from a previous post

About installing the full feature software for the printer.

This does allow me to use the printer icon to direct the scan from my computer -- but when the document feeder if loaded is selected, it still only scans from the flatbed and doesn't pull from the feeder tray.

How do I fix this issue?

When you load paper into the ADF, the printer screen (touch screen) displays the message "Paper is loaded ..." or some other text. If the message is not displayed, the sensor is broken or the paper is not loaded correctly.

Sorry but that doesn't help.  I already had it set to that document feeder -- and it still scans from the flatbed. 

There must be another reason.
