Hi @Kia19

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One Printer's document feeder is not picking up documents, it could be caused by a variety of issues such as paper jams, alignment problems, or software settings. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve this problem.

1. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  • Open the document feeder: Check the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) for any paper jams or foreign objects that might be blocking the feeder. Even small pieces of paper or dust can cause the feeder to malfunction.
  • Remove any stuck paper carefully: If you find any jams, gently remove the paper from the feeder without ripping it, as this could leave pieces inside.
  • Check the rollers: The document feeder uses rollers to pick up the paper. Make sure that the rollers are clean and not stuck or damaged.

2. Clean the ADF Rollers

Dirty or dusty rollers are one of the most common reasons why an ADF won't pick up documents. You can clean the rollers carefully with a soft cloth.

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the document feeder and locate the rollers.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water (make sure it’s not soaking wet) to wipe the rollers. You can also use a cloth with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to clean them.
  • Allow the rollers to dry before plugging the printer back in and testing the feeder.

3. Check Paper Type and Loading

The paper you’re using may not be ideal for the document feeder, especially if it’s too thick, curled, or misaligned.

  • Use the right paper type: Make sure you're using standard letter or A4-sized paper (depending on your region). The paper should be smooth and flat.
  • Paper size: Ensure the paper is loaded correctly. The paper should be aligned properly in the feeder. Make sure there’s no paper loaded that’s too small or too large.
  • Adjust the paper guides: Ensure that the paper guides in the document feeder are snug against the paper, but not too tight.

4. Reset the Printer

Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve minor software or mechanical glitches.

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power outlet, and wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on again.
  • Test the document feeder after the reset to see if it works.

5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers could be causing the document feeder issue.

  • Open Device Manager (press Windows + X and select Device Manager).
  • Look for the printer under Printers. Right-click and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. If there’s an update available, install it and restart the computer.
  • Alternatively, go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e.

After updating the drivers, test if the document feeder works again.

6. Test the Scanner and ADF in HP Smart

The HP Smart app provides a simple way to run diagnostics and troubleshoot issues.

  • Open the HP Smart app (if you don’t have it, you can download it from the Microsoft Store).
  • Go to the Printer Settings and look for a Scan or ADF diagnostic tool.
  • Run the tool to check for any issues with the scanner or document feeder.

7. Perform a Printer Reset

If your ADF still isn’t functioning correctly, you can perform a more comprehensive reset of the printer settings:

  • Go to the printer’s Control Panel on the printer's screen.
  • Navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Network Defaults (if network-related issues are suspected) or Restore Factory Defaults (for a complete reset of the printer's settings).
  • Note: This will reset any personalized settings on the printer, so use this option cautiously.

8. Check for Firmware Updates

Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve functionality, including issues with the document feeder.

  • On the printer's Control Panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Firmware Update.
  • If an update is available, follow the instructions to update the printer's firmware.

Alternatively, you can check the HP website for firmware updates for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
