Does the scan/print deletion have anything to do with this?  I wouldn't see how, as I'm plugged straight into the wall.

Hi @gros,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One is unable to send a fax, here are the key steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Confirm Phone Line Setup

  • Make sure a standard phone line is connected to the LINE port (not EXT) on the printer.
  • Avoid using VoIP lines (e.g., digital home phones, cable modems), as they may cause fax issues.
  • No DSL filter should be between the printer and the wall jack.
  • If using a splitter or answering machine, temporarily remove them for testing.

2. Dialling Format

  • Ensure you are using the correct prefix or area code.
  • If dialling internationally, include the country code.
  • Try sending a fax to the HP Test Fax Service:

3. Fax Settings on Printer

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Go to Fax Settings > Preferences.
    • Check that Error Correction Mode (ECM) is ON.
    • Set Dial Type to match your phone service (tone or pulse).
    • Enable Automatic Redial and Fax Speed set to Medium (14,400 bps).

4. Run Fax Test Report

  • On the printer:
    • Tap Settings > Fax Setup > Tools > Run Fax Test Report.
    • Review results for any failures in line connection, signal strength, or configuration.

5. Check for Dial Tone

  • Connect a standard phone to the wall jack used by the printer.
  • Pick up the receiver to check for dial tone.
  • If no tone, it's a line issue (contact your phone provider).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
