How can i add a scan shortcut to my desktop?

The following is relevant to supported printers and supported versions of Windows.

The easiest method to add any shortcut icon to your Desktop, including a shortcut for Scan, is to install the application or software for your printer that includes the Scan feature.  In the case of the full driver, the software includes a version of HP Scan - the shortcut for the Scan software is added to the Desktop with the installation of the full driver printer software.

HP Smart - Application - Print and Scan Features

If your printer is on your network,

HP Smart is generally considered the "easier to install and use option" for printing and scanning PDF format files and Photos / Images.

Installing the HP Smart application does not automatically trigger the addition of a Shortcut icon to your Desktop --

A manual link to the application can be made to add the Desktop shortcut.

HP Smart – Windows – Add HP Smart Shortcut to Desktop

Windows 10 /  Windows 11

Start (Menu) > All Apps 

Search or Scroll down - Find, Press and Hold the HP Smart app

Drag the app to the Desktop and Release

HP Smart – Windows – Add HP Smart Shortcut to Taskbar

Start (Menu) > All Apps 

Search or Scroll down – Right-Click on the HP Smart app > Pin to Taskbar

Printer Software - Full Driver - 123 method

NOTE

Should you need specific help, provide us your printer model name and your Operating System / version.

Standard method - Install Printer Software - Unknown Printer

NOTE

When asked, select to install the Full driver / full solution / full feature software

The wording varies.

The full driver is separate from the HP Smart Application.

Beware of Fake Sites

Be very careful when out on the Internet looking for help - one little dot, space, or letter out of place can land you in trouble.

The official HP 123 site is where you can find the appropriate (and free) software and drivers for your printer.

There are many “fake” sites listed (in search engines) for “123” – please make sure you are using the actual “HP” site.

If you are asked for money to correct "issues" on your printer or computer OR if the “help” wants to sell you software, threatens you, or wants access to your computer, you are using a “fake” site. Do not give these people your information!
