how can i scan to computer using ADF on laserjet mfp m281cdw?

so i purchased this from a local warehouse at an exceptional price.  i purchased it to replace my hp deskjet 4655.  the issue i have run into now with this newer model is that if i want to "scan to computer", it doesn't let me use the document feeder - really?  it will only "scan to computer" from the glass/flatbed.  i searched this forum, but i dont see any solution.  i even called HP directly and talked to cust svc, and the guy i spoke to said i could not "scan to computer" using the document feeder, only from the flatbed.  he advised that i use the HP App from my computer and use the "scan" utility to use the document feeder.  i know this may seem trivial, but I am seriously considering returning this thing because SURELY this can't be true.... i paid almost $300 for this printer, and to not be able to use the document feeder WHILE I'M STANDING AT THE printer to scan is just ridiculous.

Hi,

Indeed, scan to computer is not supported on HP Laserjet printers, only basic WSD Discovery scan functionality is supported from the printer screen, which supports the Flatbed and only supports JPG or TIFF image formats, not multipage document formats such as PDF.

You may set up other scan features to scan directly from the printer front panel through a network connection, such as Scan to Email or Scan to Network Folder, these supports scanning from the ADF from the printer screen.
