HP LaserJet Pro 8025
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This is a brand new printer (HP LaserJet Pro 8025) and works great in every other way. When I try to scan using the button on the front of the printer I get the error message: Setup required. It tells me to download the HP Smart software (which I've done) and then click on "print, scan & fax". I can't find anywhere on the app that gives that option. I have looked everywhere. I have tried the virtual assistant with no help and the scan doctor which gives an error message that the scanner is not setup. Please any help is greatly appreciated.

@themorrises1, Welcome to HP Support Community!

There is no scan to computer feature for this printer as the printer can only be configured using the HP Smart App

Try using the Smart Tasks feature from your HP Smart App.

Install the HP Smart app and enable Smart Tasks

Install the HP Smart app, add your printer, and then enable Smart Tasks.

  1. Make sure your device and printer are connected to your wireless network, and then download and install the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com (Android, iOS), or HP Smart (in English) from the Windows Store (Windows 10).

  2. Open the app, and then follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer.

  3. From the HP Smart app home screen, select your printer.

    • If the Smart Tasks tile displays, continue with these steps.

    • If the Smart Tasks tile does not display, scroll down and select Personalize (Android, iOS) or Printer Settings (Windows 10), and then select Smart Tasks.

Example of the Smart Tasks tiles displaying on the home screen (Android)

  4. Follow any on-screen prompts to sign in or create an HP account.

Create a Smart Task

Create a Smart Task to send print jobs, email, or save documents or photos to a connected cloud account.

  1. Click Smart Tasks, and then click Create a Smart Task.

  2. Select the task actions you want to include:

    • Print: Send a print job to your printer.

    • Email: Send an email message or attachments.

    • Save to: Save a print or scan job to a cloud storage account, such as Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive.

Clicking Print, Email, or Save to

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to create and name the task.

  4. Click Save (Android, iOS) or Done (Windows 10) to save the Smart Task.

The new task displays on the Smart Tasks screen.

Example of one created Smart Task (Android)

iOS: To run the Smart Task using Siri, select Add to Siri when prompted. Record the phrase for starting the task, and then tap Done.

    Prompt to Add to Siri

Run a Smart Task from the printer control panel (HP OfficeJet Pro 9010, 9020 printers)

Synchronize Smart Tasks to your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010, 9012, 9015, 9018, 9019, 9020, 9025, and Premier All-in-One printers with firmware version 1905A or later. To update the firmware from the control panel, touch the Setup icon . Select Printer Maintenance, and then select Update the printer.

After you sync your printer and Smart Tasks, you can run them from the printer control panel.

  1. From the HP Smart app, select your printer, if it is not already selected.

  2. Tap the Smart Tasks tile, scroll down the list of Smart Tasks, and then select Sync my Smart Tasks to my printer.

Any Smart Tasks you created while signed in to your HP account are available to run from the control panel.

Turning on Sync my Smart Tasks to my printer

  3. Load your original in the automatic document feeder (ADF) or the scanner glass using the guides.

  4. Tap the Smart Tasks icon  on the printer control panel, and then select your HP account from the list.

Selecting your HP account from the list

  5. Select the Smart Task you want to run, make any changes, and then tap Start.

The printer runs the selected Smart Task.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Using Smart Tasks for more information.

If your statement is true, why does everything in the support section of HP's website for this specific printer tell you to load the drivers found for this device or tell you to use HP Print Assistant and click to Manage My Printer?

I literally just spent 2 hours working on this, and it's a brand new printer.  I would uninstall everything and search for the app and drivers manually.  When I downloaded the Dr thing, it said my scan feature was missing.  I downloaded that big driver under software-utility from Aug 2019, and now I have all the features.  I'm still trying to figure out where it is scanning TO from the panel.

Hi TEJ1602.
Let me add support to my statement that everywhere on HP's website indicates "Scan to Computer" is available which is contrary to your statement it doesn't exist.  EVEN the manual says it does!  Chapter 3, Copy and Scan, page 46 says:
To enable the scan to a computer feature (Windows)
If the printer is connected to the computer with a USB connection, the feature for scanning to computer is
enabled by default and cannot be disabled.
If you are using network connection, follow these instructions if the feature has been disabled, and you wish
to enable it again.
1. Open the HP printer software. For more information, see Open the HP printer software (Windows).
2. Click Print, Scan & Fax , and then click Scan .
3. Select Manage Scan to Computer.
4. Click Enable.

So please comment on why so many of us are having this issue yet in the manual says it's an available feature on this model.

Hi Stan-the-man,

So what's not there is the "Scan-Copy-Fax" option that it says to choose. I have seen all the directions you are pointing out. There is a Scan choice and that is obvious but the other options needed to complete the tasks are not under the Scan choice on the HPSmart Software. If you find the "Scan-Copy-Fax" option on the HPSmart Software please be so kind as to direct me to it. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you!

Hi TEJ1602,

I would really like to use the SCAN button already provided on the printer without having to set up a Smart task to have to use. Can you instruct me on how to set that up? As I said the directions I read say, in the HPSmart App, to click on "print-scan-copy" but I can not find that choice on the App. Do I need to download a newer version of the app? Or update a driver or something for the printer? Hope you can help.

Thank you!

I already told you what to download in my post.  I guess it's because the other person is a male.

Hi Raven,

I will try that and see if it works. It may take a couple of days. I will get back with you and let you know how it goes.

Thanks!

Hi TEJ1602
Your totally correct.  Neither the "Scan-Copy-Fax" option nor the sub-selection "Manage Scan to Computer" are not present in the HP Smart App.  YET, when I go to my printer's control panel and select scan, it allows me to select "Computer" or "Email" and then if I select "Computer",  I can see both my active devices, laptop & desktop.  Selecting either allows me to scan from the printer to the selected computer.  So it works!  Unfortunately, for some reason there's a duplication of the two devices (I see 4 names, 2 with "Scanto name-of-computer", the other 2 with just "name-of-computer"  Now that I have Scan to Computer from the control panel available, how can I get to the "Manage Scan to Printer" sub-selection?  I'd like to control the "name-of-computer" shown on the printer's panel and get rid of the duplication.
