how to scan multiple photos with auto crop on HP officejet 4650

I'm using a HP Officejet 4650 and want to scan a few photos all at one time. I'm using HP Smart to scan. Please advise how the photos can be auto cropped properly and saved separately. Thank you.

Scanning multiple photos, detecting the boundaries on each photo, and saving each photo as a separate file is certainly doable.

HP Smart is perhaps not the best tool for the task -- at this writing, the application lacks the features needed to make the job easy.  You can force / manage the task but it's a drawn out process with additional steps. 

Example plate for HP Smart app (Windows)

Scan > Edit > Crop > go back > re-scan > Edit > Crop again and save a different part of the scanned area

Repeat sequence until Done > Save

On the other hand...

Get a hold of a PC running Windows 10 or Windows 11,

Install the Full Feature Software

Use HP Scan to scan multiple photos from the flatbed and save each scanned photo as a separate file.

Set Page Size to "Detect Photos"

Leave about an inch or more between each photo so the "detect content" can pick out each separate photo.
