If you're experiencing issues where your HP Smart Tank 750 series printer is not detected for scanning when connected via USB to your laptop, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check Physical Connections

  • Make sure the USB cable is securely connected to both your printer and your laptop.
  • Sometimes, USB ports can be faulty. Try connecting the printer to a different USB port on your laptop.
  • If possible, try a different USB cable to rule out any issues with the cable itself.

2. Check Printer Settings

  • Ensure that your HP Smart Tank 750 printer is set to scanning mode. This can usually be done directly on the printer's control panel.
  • Check the printer’s settings to confirm it is set to USB mode for scanning.

3. Restart Devices

  1. Restart Printer and Laptop:
    • Turn off both the printer and your laptop.
    • Restart the printer first, then restart your laptop.
    • Try scanning again after both devices have fully restarted.

4. Update Printer Drivers and Software

  1. Update Drivers:
    • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and software for your HP Smart Tank 750 series printer.
    • Install the updated drivers on your laptop according to the instructions provided.

5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor:
    • HP provides a diagnostic tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor. Download and run this tool to diagnose and resolve scanning issues.
    • The tool can automatically detect and fix problems related to scanning.

6. Check for Security Software Interference

  1. Temporarily Disable Security Software:
    • Sometimes, security software or firewalls can block scanning functionality. Temporarily disable them and try scanning again to see if the issue persists.

7. Reset Printing System (Mac Only)

  1. Reset Printing System:
    • On a Mac, you can reset the printing system which can sometimes resolve scanning issues.
    • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Right-click (or Control-click) on the list of printers on the left side and choose "Reset printing system".
